Determining Free-Flow Speed on Different Classes of Rural Two-Lane Highways

چکیده
Current analytical free-flow speed models consider all rural two-lane highways as the same road type despite their different functional significance in network. The aim of this paper is to develop a prediction model for function limit and geometric characteristics classes highways. research was conducted on 50 representative sections two equipped with automatic traffic counters Serbia. In order appropriate models, it necessary determine threshold values vehicle time headway both highways, based total number 191,720 vehicles. obtained results show that there are differences classes. Namely, determined Class I amounted 6.3 s, II 8.4 s. showed had highest impact followed by horizontal curve radius shoulder width.

Modelling Free Flow Speed on Two-lane Rural Highways in Bosnia and Herzegovina
Free flow speed is used as a parameter in transportation planning and capacity analysis models, as well as speedflow diagrams. Many of these models suggest estimating free flow speed according to measurements from similar highways, which is not a practical method for use in B&H. This paper first discusses problems with using these methodologies in conditions prevailing in B&H and then presents ...

متن کاملAnalysis of Traffic Flow Variability on Two-Lane Highways
The main objective of this paper is to develop and test an approach for the spatio-temporal analysis of traffic flow variation on two lane highways. Traffic count devices located in several points of two lane highway links give the aggregate time series of data used in this approach, which is based on the Principal Components Analysis (PCA). The statistical analysis of main sources of temporal ...
متن کاملAlternative Design Consistency Rating Methods for Two-Lane Rural Highways
Design consistency refers to the conformance of a highway's geometry with driver expectancy. Drivers make fewer errors in the vicinity of geometric features that conform with their expectations. Techniques to evaluate the consistency of a design documented within this report include alignment indices, speed distribution measures, and driver workload. Alignment indices are quantitative measures ...
متن کاملTwo-Lane Highways: International Perspective
The results of an extensive literature review of the safety performances of lowand intermediate-traffic-volume, two-lane rural highways are presented. The effects on traffic safety, as measured by accident rates, of pavement width, radius of curve/degree of curve, gradient, sight distance, traffic volume, and design speed on curved sections of two-lane rural highways are covered. The following ...
